A new investigation reveals the extent of the CIA's involvement in the war in Ukraine, where the agency operates clandestinely in what, under a formal declaration of war, would be the domain of the military. We're joined on the show by the author of the investigation, William Arkin, a national security reporter and senior editor at Newsweek, who says that the CIA has "got its hand in a little bit of everything" in Ukraine. According to various sources, the CIA is shuttling weapons into Ukraine using a "gray fleet" of commercial aircraft that crisscrosses Central and Eastern Europe, sending personnel into Ukraine on secret missions and assisting Ukrainians with new weapons and systems, all while using Poland as its clandestine hub to coordinate its operations inside the country. At the same time, the U.S.'s nonaligned status appears to place a limit on its intelligence, keeping it in the dark on both Zelensky and Putin's next moves. A new report sheds light on the role played by US spy agency CIA in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. CIA is said to be “playing an outsize role”, reported to be acting as primary spy, as negotiator, as supplier of intelligence and as logistician. The primary task of the US spy agency appears to be to ensure the war does not further spin out of control. The Ukraine war is having a "corrosive" effect on Vladimir Putin's leadership of Russia, according to the head of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Apparently the CIA thinks there has never been a better time to recruit spies in Russia. Russian spies. The US intelligence agency is using social media and the darknet to extend an invitation to Russian citizens who may have access to state secrets to get in touch. The invitation comes in the form of a video that speaks to Russian who love their country, but not where it's going. Months before Russia began its invasion of Ukraine, the US went public with intelligence that suggested the Kremlin - despite its denials - was planning to start a war. In February 2022, that intelligence proved to be spot on. It is impossible to measure the value of intelligence, but ask any general from Berlin to London to Washington and they will tell you: better to have too much intel than not enough.
